2012 Nissan GT-R Super Sports Car Review

Innovation for 2012 All” again takes many forms from the enhanced 530-horsepower Nissan GT-R and the totally redesigned, 38-mpg second-generation Nissan Versa Sedan to the segment-redefining Nissan NV commercial vehicle lineup. Other updates for 2012 include a refreshed version of the flagship Nissan Maxima with a new Limited Edition model, a new Nissan Rogue Special Edition model and new standard features for the Nissan LEAF electric vehicle. Following is a brief overview of the changes, refinements and enhancements to the complete 2012 Nissan lineup. Full information and specifications on each vehicle will be available closer to each model’s on-sale date. Since its introduction in the Japanese market in 2007, the Nissan GT-R has gone through continuous evolution but always remaining cutting-edge. It has also been acclaimed globally, winning more than 50 top awards in various categories.

For 2012 Nissan GT-R has a new look, new colors, new wheel design and, most important to fans of pure power, more horsepower under the hood. In addition, a new “Black Edition”– with unique seat trim, interior colors and wheels joins the GT-R Premium model. The 2012 Nissan GT-R advanced VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 now produces 530 horsepower (versus the previous 485 horsepower) and 448 lb-ft of torque (versus the previous 434 lb-ft) – a result of modifying the boost pressure of the turbocharger, valve timing and air fuel ratio, and through reduced intake air resistance created by enlarging the inlet pipe diameter. In addition, exhaust air resistance was reduced through use of an enlarged diameter exhaust pipe. GT-R’s already impressive aerodynamic performance has been improved for 2012 with downforce increased by about 10% and the coefficient of drag reduced to 0.26 (from 0.27). Inside, the revisions for 2012 include new carbon fiber trim and upgraded materials.

The 2012 Nissan GT-R color Black Edition adds custom red and black Recaro leather-appointed seats, red and black interior trim and a dark headliner. For 2012, the Nissan GT-R has a new look, new colors, new wheel design and, most important to fans of pure power, more horsepower under the hood. In addition, a new “Black Edition”with unique seat trim, interior colors and wheels – joins the GT-R Premium model. The 2012 Nissan GT-R is offered in two models: GT-R Premium and GT-R Black Edition. It is available now through approximately 650 official “GT-R certified” Nissan dealers across the United States.

The "World of GT-R" expands again this year with the addition of a racing circuit use-only "Club Track" edition and an ultra-exclusive "EGOIST" version that can be custom-ordered according to the precise desires of each individual customer. The complete 11MY Nissan GT-R model lineup now includes six versions - the "Pure edition," "Black edition," "Premium edition," "SpecV," "Club Track" and "EGOIST" - allowing customers to choose the exact level of dynamic performance and style to meet their various needs. Engine modifications are the same as the base model with improved maximum power output and torque, as well as enhanced fuel economy, except maximum torque is improved to 612Nm(62.5kgfm)/ 3,200, 6,000rpm (632Nm(64.5kgfm)/ 3,600-5,600rpm).

By modifying the boost pressure of the turbocharger, valve timing and air mixture ratio, reducing intake air resistance by enlarging the inlet pipe diameter, and reducing exhaust air resistance through use of an enlarged section of exhaust pipe, fuel economy is improved to 8.5km/L (10-15 mode) or 8.6km/L (JC08 mode). At the same time, the engine output is significantly improved to 390kW(530ps)/6,400rpm with maximum torque of 612Nm(62.5kg fm) from 3,200 to 6,000 rpm. A new red color engine cover is used to demonstrate its greater performance. Cleaner emissions are realized through adopting an ultra-low precious metal catalyst and ECM with high-capacity microprocessor achieving SU-LEV certification levels (emitting 75% fewer emissions than Japan's 2005 exhaust emission standards).

A new SAVE mode is adopted, which optimizes driving torque and modifies the shift schedule to improve actual fuel economy when driving highways or open roads. This mode also helps reduce ankle fatigue. Starting performance while selecting "R mode" for the transmission and VDC-R is improved. To control tight corner braking phenomenon, which can occur when starting the vehicle while turning the steering wheel, 2WD mode is added to temporarily shift to 2WD driving.

2012 Juke also offers generous ground clearance with standard 17-inch wheels and tires. Another unique element of the 2012 Nissan JUKE interior is the Integrated Control (I-CON) system drive mode selector, which offers three different throttle/transmission/steering response settings – Normal for everyday driving, Sport for a more intense performance feel and Eco for maximum efficiency. It adjusts throttle, transmission (CVT only) and steering feel for the precise ride the driver desires. I-CON also serves as a central command center and display module, adopting different display colors and functions depending on how it is being used. In Climate mode, the display shows the interior temperature settings while the “buttons” display air flow preferences. The new generation  Nissan 370Z Coupe is offered in two models for 2012, Nissan 370Z Coupe and Nissan 370Z Coupe Touring, each available with a standard 332-horsepower 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine and choice of 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission. An oil cooler has been added for the 2012 model year as standard equipment. The 370Z Coupe’s FM platform provides a refined foundation for the well-proportioned body, with a 100.4-inch wheelbase, 167.2-inch overall length, 72.6-inch width and 51.8-inch height, giving it a classic sports car look and feel. The body features aluminum door panels, along with an all-aluminum hood and an aluminum hatch. The name Versa reflects the "versatile space" provided by the roomy interior and cargo area. Nissan Versa is called Tiida in Mexico, Japan, China and other markets where the car is sold. And while Versa has a global footprint, the design, specifications and equipment offerings are customized for each major market. The new  Nissan Versa is built on Nissan’s "B" platform, with priorities placed on interior roominess, a high quality interior and comfortable, stress-free environment. In creating the Versa packaging, the design and engineering teams found a way to put a big interior in a small car. The interior length, front to back, is over six feet long. The  2012 Nissan Versa enhancements, following an extensive list of changes for the last model year, include the addition of an in-dash 6-disc CD player for the Sedan 1.8 S, and the addition of Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) for the Versa Sedan 1.6 (except 1.6 Base).

The 2012 Nissan ESFLOW is based on existing technology, implemented in innovative ways. An attractive, head turning composite body covers an aluminium chassis, incorporating its own roll cage. The powertrain unit, which employs the same technologies installed in the Nissan LEAF, is tuned to offer a sporty driving experience. Nissan ESFLOW has been created from the ground up as a pure electric vehicle, to give an idea how a Zero Emission sports car of the future might look. Living ecologically has often been seen as an act of austerity - to save one's environmental conscience sacrifices must be made. 2012 ESFLOW is here to address that misconception. The Nissan ESFLOW is undoubtedly an attractive car. Crisp, clean lines not only convey the purity of its sporting potential, but suggest the clarity of electric power. The colour scheme chosen for the concept car is inspired by glaciers - highly reflective solidified liquid with blue tints in its shadows. Like its ZEV concept forebears and contemporary stable mate the ESFLOW's headlights and Nissan emblem are tinted cool blue. The six spoke wheels contain blue carbon inserts while the same material adorns the side sill, roof mounted lip spoiler and lower rear bumper. Blue LEDs accentuate the futuristic lights slashed into the bodywork both front and rear. Where the Nissan LEAF's protrusive headlights are used to guide airflow around the door mirrors, this is not needed on ESFLOW as the mirrors have been replaced with minute rear view cameras at the base of its A-pillars. The ESFLOW's front lights do protect a secret of their own however: flip out charging points built in to the air ducts beneath.

The NISSAN ESFLOW is rear-wheel drive and it runs on two motors. The car's graceful proportions allow the twin electric motors to be placed above the axis of the rear wheels, in a mid-ship position,. These motors independently control the left and right wheels, and so the torque is optimized to ensure outstanding vehicle stability and control as well as efficient power regeneration. The motors produce enough torque in an instant for it to reach a 100kph in under 5 seconds. Power for the motors comes from the same laminated lithium-ion battery packs used in the Nissan LEAF, but in ESFLOW the packs are located along the axis of the front and rear wheels. This centralizes the mass of the car, and thus its rotation point, close to the driver's hips. These cleverly positioned batteries enable the car to travel over 240km on one charge.

Ecological minimalism need not come at the expense of luxury. The cabin of the ESFLOW is clean and open and weight saving has been a priority throughout its design, but it is still a comfortable and pleasant place to sit. By far the heaviest components in modern cars' interiors are the steel framed, thickly upholstered and increasingly motorized seats. In ESFLOW the seats are sculpted into the rear bulkhead of the car, negating the need for a heavy frame. This of course means that they are immobile, but this is of no consequence as the fly-by-wire steering and pedals adjust electrically to the best spot to suit each individual driver's size and preferred driving position. The seats themselves are upholstered in gold leather and perforated gold suede while the doors are trimmed in dark blue leather and suede. The blue and gold motif, the colour of sparks, is continued across the dashboard, which is also adorned with silver carbon trim, and features four multifunction illuminated LCD displays.

Nissan ESFLOW with aluminium chassis has been built around the drive train, taking full advantage of the opportunities that Zero Emission electric propulsion provides. Power cells are incorporated in such a way that they benefit ESFLOW's strength and poise, not detract from them. Indeed, unlike a conventional fuel tank, batteries do not get lighter as they provide energy, so the car's weight distribution remains constant throughout a drive. The high waistline afforded by the ESFLOW's classic sports car proportions allows strong, yet unobtrusive roll bars incorporated in to the structure behind the seats to safely take the entire load of the car in the event of a roll over, negating the need for obtrusive, thick, reinforced A-pillars and the blind spots they inevitably create.

The new 2012 Nissan Sentra is much larger than the previous generation and should offer one of the largest interior volumes in the compact car class (final specifications will available closer to on-sale date). Built on Nissan’s new "C" platform, this sixth generation Sentra has a 5.9-inch longer wheelbase than the 2006 model. It is 2.3 inches longer in overall length, 3.2 inches wider and sits 4.0 inches taller for easier ingress and egress and enhanced head room. In the front, head room, shoulder room and hip room have all increased, while rear seat shoulder room, knee room and head room have all also been enhanced. 2012 Nissan Maxima New Monster Sedan

The all-new 2009 Nissan Maxima at the 2008 New York International Auto Show. The seventh-generation of Nissan’s flagship performance sedan features new exterior and interior designs, along with enhanced performance from a revised 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine. The 2009 Maxima goes on sale at Nissan dealers nationwide beginning in early summer 2008. Nissan also showed a special design concept electric vehicle, the Denki Cube Concept. The Denki (Japanese for “electric”) Cube Concept is based on the current Japan-market Nissan Cube, a small, space- and fuel-efficient urban car. Nissan has announced that a gasoline engine-equipped version of the next-generation Nissan Cube will be available in the United States in 2009. Also on display at the auto show is the dramatic new 480-horsepower Nissan GT-R supercar, which will be available for the first time ever in the United States beginning in July 2008; the recently introduced 2009 Nissan Murano crossover; and the complete lineup of 2008 Nissan cars, SUVs and trucks. 2012 Nissan NV Series Cargo Vehicle

The new Nissan commercial vehicles lineup comes in basically two models: standard roof, and high roof. Both models offer engines of 4.0 L V6 and 5.6 L V8. The V8 has 317 horsepower and 385 lb-ft and the V6 has 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft. Since I drove mostly the standard roof 1500 S with a V6, I will focus primarily on that vehicle.

The standard model comes with a five-speed automatic transmission. The engine-speed-sensitive power-assisted steering amalgamates easily with heavy-duty fourwheel disc brakes resting on 17- inch steel wheels.

makes front and back as well as peripheral views better, allowing the driver an additional comfort to the
driving experience.

2011 marks Nissan’s 75th year in the commercial industry, which was a surprise to me. Nissan CVs are currently sold in over 75 percent of world markets including Japan, China, Mexico, Russia, Europe, and the Middle East. In 2010 sales exceeded 700K units. In fact commercial vehicles represent 20 percent of Nissan’s global volume.

The Nissan NV is built on a solid foundation for a real work truck experience. It has a rugged bodyon- frame construction with a durable, all-new fully boxed frame with rear wheel drive that has up to 9,500 pounds towing capacity (V8 engine-equipped). The 2012 Nissan NV standard roof measures 83.9” in height while the high roof NV measures 105.0”. The length is 240.6” and the wheelbase is 146.1”. The width is 79.9”, and it is 102.8” wide with mirrors.

The standard platform has 234.1 cu. ft. cargo volume and 76.9” max cargo height. There is 120.0” cargo length at floor, 118.8” length at beltline, and 54.3” cargo width between wheelhouses. Nissan wanted to build a commercial vehicle to meet the needs of the working public, offering some features that make the job easier.
