2012-2013 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid

The 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is engineered for dedicated electric driving capability, and it allows you to charge its Lithium ion battery using a common household outlet. A 120V outlet1 will completely charge the battery in about three hours, while a 240V outlet* will charge it in about half that time. While in EV2 mode, it is rated to drive up to 11 miles. It’s also capable of traveling up to 62 mph using electric power alone. During EV2 mode driving, the Prius Plug-in is rated at 95 mpge. In hybrid mode, it has an EPA combined mileage rating of 50 mpg.

The Toyota Prius Plug-in will be available at participating dealers starting March 2012 in 15 launch states: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington. Availability will open up to all other states in 2013. The Plug-in is engineered for dedicated electric driving capability that can let you travel up to 62 mph on electric power alone. The 2012 Toyota Plug-in Hybrid is rated to drive up to 11 miles while in EV mode. It also features a quick three-hour charge time from a standard 120V AC household outlet. If you run out of electric charge, the vehicle seamlessly shifts into hybrid mode, still giving you great mpg.

To charge the 2012 Prius Plug-in Hybrid, you simply plug it into any standard household outlet with a dedicated 15-amp circuit. This produces a full charge in just three hours. If you have installed a dedicated 240V Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) outlet, charging the vehicle only takes 1.5 hours. If you run out of electric charge while driving, don't worry the vehicle automatically transitions to hybrid mode and runs on the gas engine until you have a chance to recharge.

The  2012 Plug-in Hybrid operates just like the 3rd Generation Prius, but it gives you the added benefit of a dedicated electric driving capability. This is a great option for drivers who take many short trips and have access to outlets for charging. For instance, it's possible to nearly always run in electric mode and never use a single drop of gas. However, if you find yourself regularly taking longer trips and/or have limited access to outlets, then the 3rd Generation Prius may be a better choice.

This available service provides additional features and applications for the Prius Plug-in that you can access directly from your smartphone. Some examples include a Vehicle Finder app that can help you locate your vehicle in a large parking lot; Charge Management, which lets you monitor the charge of your vehicle's battery and start charging remotely; and a Remote Climate feature, which allows you to monitor the temperature of the cabin and turn on the A/C before getting into your car.  Like all other new Toyota vehicles, the Plug-in comes standard with Toyota Care, which offers complimentary maintenance and roadside service for two years or 25,000 miles. In addition, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid will come with an extra year of roadside assistance, for a total of three years from date of purchase. In the event of an emergency where roadside assistance cannot be contacted, a Tire Repair System is standard equipment.
