2012 Ford Edge and Ford Edge Sport Review

The 2012 Ford Edge looks great and has revolutionary driver technology. And its performance is every bit as impressive. The 3.5L V6 engine with Ti-VCT (twin independent variable cam timing) delivers 285 horsepower plus unsurpassed fuel economy. The 2012 Edge Sport model powered by a 3.7L Ti-VCT V6 cranking out power ratings that are best in class: 305 hp and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. The Ford-exclusive advanced turbo charged direct-injection I-4 EcoBoost engine delivers the power of a V6 engine with the economy and efficiency of a smaller engine. The available EcoBoost engine combines two different technologies  turbocharging and direct injection while providing outstanding fuel economy plus plenty of low-end torque for acceleration and passing. Compared to a naturally aspirated engine, the EcoBoost turbocharged direct-injection engine produces the kind of torque that you might expect from a V6. Improved transient response enabled by the direct injector reduces “turbo lag," overcoming the traditional disadvantage of downsizing and boosting. More efficient fuel consumption is the result of a high compression ratio enabled by direct injection, which provides a cooler, denser charge.

The 2012 Ford Edge Sport takes exciting styling to where it really counts on the open road. Under the hood is a 3.7L twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) V6 engine that delivers best-in-class power: 305 hp and 280 lb.-ft. of. torque. The 3.7L V6 features advanced engine technology that controls when the intake and exhaust valves open and close and optimizes combustion at full load which delivers improved power and low-speed torque (broadens the torque curve for passing and merging performance). It also contributes to fuel efficiency and optimizes cold-start operation. All this power connects to the road with performance tires mounted on 22" polished aluminum wheels. Handling is taut and controlled, courtesy of a sport-tuned suspension. Standard on all 2012 Ford Edge models is the 6-speed SelectShift™ Automatic™ transmission. SelectShift™ allows you to override automatic operation and enjoy the fun-to-drive performance feel of a manual with total control over gear selection.

2012 Ford Edge Sport
The striking exterior style translates smoothly to the inside of the cabin, as well. The sleek design flows through the instrument panel, center stack, door trim, floor console and shifter. And the exceptional quality of the fit and finish you noticed on the outside carries over to the materials and craftsmanship you can see and feel throughout the interior. Another important detail not to be overlooked is the unsurpassed second-row legroom* that speaks volumes about the attention paid to comfort in every Ford Edge. The available panoramic Vista Roof™ features a large forward panel that tilts up or opens fully, plus a fixed-rear skylight. So whether you're sitting up front or seated in back, Vista Roof lets in more of the world above.

Modified sport-tuned suspension components bring the Fusion handling experience to an even higher level of driving enjoyment, to match the power of the 263-horsepower 3.5L 24-valve V6.
2012 Ford Fusion

2012 Ford Fusion Sport
The 2012 Ford Fusion features a double-wishbone independent front suspension with stabilizer bar, a design commonly found in top-of-the-line sports and luxury cars. And Ford engineers made the best use of the multilink independent rear suspension's design flexibility to deliver excellent ride quality and handling capability. The V6-powered Fusion with available All-Wheel Drive (AWD) improves traction and handling on any surface where wheelslip can occur, such as ice, snow, mud or gravel. It constantly monitors driving conditions and distributes engine torque to the wheels with the most traction. So if the front wheels are experiencing poor traction, AWD will automatically transfer more torque to the rear wheels. At highway speed, the AWD system automatically deactivates to help conserve fuel but is able to reactivate if wheelslip is anticipated or detected.

2012 Ford Fusion By designing a transmission with more gears, engineers can calibrate its wider range of ratios to deliver more responsive acceleration at the low end and higher fuel economy at the high overdrive gear.  That's why every Fusion engine is matched with a six-speed transmission. A six-speed manual comes standard in the Fusion S with the 2.5L Duratec I-4 engine, while the SE and SEL I-4 models get a smooth-shifting and quiet-operating six-speed automatic. V6-powered Fusion models feature the six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission with a thumb switch on the shift lever for up/down shifting. You can override automatic operation and enjoy the fun-to-drive performance feel of a manual transmission.

2012 Ford Fusion Interior
The 2.5L Atkinson-Cycle Hybrid I-4 engine is teamed with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT). As its name suggests, this transmission is designed to provide seamless shifting because there is no progression of gear changes in the usual sense. What's more, because the eCVT can compensate for changing vehicle speeds, it allows engine speed to remain at its level of peak efficiency, helping make the Fusion Hybrid the most fuel-efficient hybrid sedan in its class.

2012 Ford Fusion interior design available SYNC 27 is an easy-to-use in-car connectivity system that allows you to stay connected to your world. Simply pair your Bluetooth enabled phone and your compatible MP3 player or USB drive and SYNC does the rest.  2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty New Transmission. Managing the power flow is the all-new 6R140 heavy-duty TorqShift six-speed automatic transmission. The new transmission enables segment-exclusive Live Drive Power Take Off (PTO) for the Power Stroke, allowing customers to power auxiliary equipment.
The transmission features SelectShift Automatic™ functionality, which includes both Progressive Range Select and manual function. Progressive Range Select allows customers to reduce the range of available gears while in Drive. For full manual function, customers can pull the shift lever into “M” and select the gear desired. The control system locks the torque converter and holds the gear.

The 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty contains a wealth of new technologies – from all-new powertrains to software designed to take full advantage of the truck’s continuing best-in-class towing and payload capability so customers can get the job done efficiently. Ford research shows that 97 percent of Super Duty customers tow, underscoring the importance of the new Super Duty’s best-in-class towing capability.

The 2011 Super Duty also offers more towing from inside the bed. New is the first-ever factory-installed and warranted fifth-wheel and gooseneck substructure directly attached to the frame. The electrical connection is mounted in the side of the bed wall, providing a clean installation.

The New Concept 2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty Trailer Sway Control.
Ford’s lauded trailer sway control (TSC) system joins the Super Duty lineup, giving those customers segment-first capability. TSC is integrated with AdvanceTrac with RSC (Roll Stability Control™), which now is standard on all single-rear-wheel (SRW) configurations. The AdvanceTrac control module uses additional software to monitor the truck’s motion when a trailer is attached. Trailer sway control can determine from the yaw motion of the truck if the trailer is swaying and take measures such as applying precise braking or reducing engine torque – to help reduce the trailer sway.

For further peace of mind, the available integrated trailer brake controller, factory-installed and covered by a Ford limited warranty, offers smoother and safer operation due to its ability to interface with multiple vehicle systems. Normal braking is proportional to driver brake pressure for smooth brake stops at all speeds. If the vehicle’s Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is engaged, the special trailer brake kicks in to minimize the potential for trailer wheel lockup. In Super Duty trucks with trailer brake control towing trailers with electric brakes, the Ford system can, during a sway event, also apply brakes to the trailer to help stabilize it.

2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Super Rock Cross

The new 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor engine 6.2-liter V8 is ready for the big time, Ford decided to drop the dated 5.4-liter engine altogether, making the 6.2-liter V8 standard for both the Supercab and SuperCrew models. This newly standard engine makes the F-150 SVT Raptor the most powerful half-ton pickup on the market. Ford says the 6.2-liter V8 improves the capability of the Raptor by giving customers new levels of capability by enabling low-speed maneuvers such as rock crawling, driving up a grade or accelerating through deep sand, which will now require much less throttle input because of the engine's increased torque.

2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor engineers were nearly obsessive about giving the longer, heavier SuperCrew the same driving feel as the original Raptor, and a day of testing on snow- and ice-coated roads and at a test track in far-northern Michigan proved they were successful. Spring and shock absorber rates were recalibrated, as were bushings and other lesser elements. The SuperCrew even uses a faster steering gear to offset the slower response of the longer chassis. Even in "professional driver, closed-course" situations (i.e., hooning about like a pack of juveniles on an icy test track in far-northern Michigan), the truck's 6200-pound curb weight never overwhelms its abilities. You can limit the range of gears the trans will choose in auto mode, blocking out sixth and fifth, say, or skipping second. With the electronics now in hand, it would be easy for Ford or SVT to use it with paddle shifters on other models or future Raptors.
