2013 KIA Optima Muscular Athleticism

Innovation, a sporty stance, and style that conveys confident individuality. These are the characteristics you expect from progressive, modern car design. One glance at the bold new shape of the 2013 Kia Optima will convince you that these qualities are effortlessly delivered. With a bodyshell conceived as a single futuristic unit, the high-tech silhouette conveys all the clean, streamlined references its designers could muster. The striking, sharply styled front end is further refined by the contrasting black of the signature Kia radiator grille, bezel frame headlights and lower air dam. The KIA Optima is dynamism personified.

Turning heads thanks to its strong exterior styling, the 2013 KIA Optima is the ideal accompaniment to urban living. High-tech rear lamps and reflectors emphasise the elegant visual flow, while oval, chrome-tipped exhaust pipes put the accent on power. There are some things that all sporty cars have in common: a long athletic bonnet, a lowered profile, and chrome detailing. One dynamic styling attribute after another all come together in perfect harmony to create the Kia Optima. A vehicle’s outline is what defines its character. The KIA Optima’s coupe like roofline, flowing smoothly into the high rear deck, merges uninterrupted with the strong C pillar.

2013 KIA Optima

Projection headlamps and a high-mounted LED stop lamp are just some the defining features of the Optima. LED daytime running lights heighten the specification even more, while the optional sport package offers unique 18-inch alloy wheels and LED rear combination lamps, adding to the dynamic appeal. Available as an option, HID headlamps with static bending lights increase your visibility when cornering, synchronising with the turns of the steering wheel to light up more of the road.

The Optima’s muscular athleticism is carried through to the cabin. A cockpit area shaped
around the driver combines with a sturdy 4-spoke steering wheel for complete control. Take your seat in the Optima and what registers first is the array of technologically advanced features at your disposal. From paddle shifters to auto cruise control, and from a bright, easily-readable supervision cluster to the wraparound, driver-oriented centre fascia, this is a car designed for the here and now, with one eye on the future. A high-tech, visually striking supervision cluster emulates classic sports car instrumentation with its dual cylinder design. Featuring a 3.5” colour TFT LCD, it gives you essential information such as average fuel economy, trip distance, distance to empty, open door warning and outside temperature. At the same time it allows you to fully customise the menu to your own desired settings.

The spaciousness of the Optima allows your friends and family to experience all the reassuring comfort and elegance that are built into this highly refined vehicle. At the same time, they’ll
appreciate the use of luxury materials and the emphasis on texture the finishing of the seats blending seamlessly with the trim detailing. Storage is generous too, with door pockets, cup and bottle holders, and seat back pockets. All of it perfectly complemented by cool mood lamps and interior lighting. Despite a lowered exterior height and an elevated beltline, interior dimensions
on the Optima have actually been increased. How? Through the innovative use of space and the judicious layout of elements. Headroom and legroom are generous for both front and rear passengers. Driver comfort has received particular attention, with the driver seat incorporating an advanced memory system that remembers the settings for two different drivers. And so that the front passengers aren't left out, their seat gets the same treatment.

As you would expect with a car of this calibre, the Optima positively bristles with the latest technology. The 530-watt premium Infinity sound system features 8-speakers in addition to
the standard AUX-USB and iPod connectivity, ensuring an unsurpassed listening experience on the move. All of it operated via intuitive, fingertip-sensitive controls. Offering enhanced convenience and sound quality, you can load the top class Infinity sound system with up to 6 CDs for truly customised listening. Skip between CDs and find the music that suits your taste and style! The Optima delivers a dynamic individualized listening experience. The completely integrated sound system means you can play not just CDs, but MP3 files too. USB connectivity lets you plug in an Aux or iPod mobile storage device and play tunes you’ve already downloaded.

Before a car performs on the road, it has to turn in a winning performance on your heart. Exuding chic good looks and sporty style, it doesn’t take long for the Optima to convince you that it shares your desires. An exterior that’s dynamic and elegant, an interior that functions like an extension of your plugged-in, high-tech world. Welcome to the new Optima. The Optima packs power and performance into a class-leading, environmentally-friendly powertrains. With the lightweight Theta II 2.0 or 2.4 MPI petrol engines, extra torque is delivered thanks to a straightened air intake system that allows the inhalation of a greater volume of air. Reverse gear is positioned close to the driver’s seat, making light work of manoeuvres where several forward and reverse shifts are required. Safety is up there with style, dynamics and performance when it comes to car design. The Optima incorporates a whole range of state-of-the-art features to provide you and your passengers with safety of the highest order. These include electronic stability control for when you have to brake suddenly, oversize disc brakes for smooth, controlled and powerful braking, and details such as a rear view camera and active headrests in the front seats.

2013 KIA Soul Shaker

The remarkable 2013 KIA Soul Shaker draws its inspiration from the timeless aesthetic of American Shaker design, uniting traditional and contemporary styles in a bold fusion of ideas. 2013 KIA Soul New Suv Engine

The new 2013 KIA Soul as the world’s 5th largest automotive group, Kia has exported over 5 million cars to more than 133 countries. Our phenomenal success is due to an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation, ensuring that we continually surpass our customers’ expectations. Concept to production in just 33 months... When the original KIA Soul concept car (pictured) was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show 3 years ago, its radical design provoked a dramatic response. But what else would you expect from designer Peter Schreyer? Renowned for his uncompromising vision on the Audi TT and VW Beetle, he wasn't about to make concessions to mediocrity. Soul is a radical urban crossover, combining the space and flexibility of an SUV with the economy and driveability of a supermini. Soul defies classification. Imagine an everyday object turned on its head. A square-shaped egg? A rocket-shaped pillar box? A triangular mint? Now think Soul. Its high-tech, Tardis like appearance challenges the very notion of what a car should look like.

2013 KIA Soul

2013 Soul’s exterior is dominated by its unique front and rear black ‘tusk’ bumper inserts, distinctive waistline moulding and highgloss A pillars. Its stylish good looks are emphasised by a sleek, high-rise roofline which appears to float above a dramatic wrap-around windscreen offset by the glass tapering towards the rear of the car. Muscular wheels and arch flares add to Soul’s dynamic presence, while wind noise and drag are reduced by aerodynamic grooved door mirrors which incorporate ‘active vortex generators’. And, for the first time on any Kia model, Soul features a distinctive new "tiger-nose" grille design, a shape which is reiterated throughout the car.

The interior of the 2013 KIA Soul is no less radical than its outer shell. The spacious cockpit has a dynamic, cutting edge feel with a four-spoke steering wheel and high-tech LCD instrument cluster. Soul’s square tailgate reveals over 340 litres of cargo space (671 litres with the seats down), enabling you to stow large loads easily. The cockpit also boasts up to 14 separate storage compartments and a secure underfloor storage tray is available on certain Soul models. The genius is in the shape. Drop the 60:40 split-folding rear seats and there’s ample room for two mountain bikes! Intelligent design of space means Soul can seat 5 adults in comfort with exceptional leg, knee and headroom. In fact Soul offers more passenger legroom than larger competitors. Air conditioning, power steering, and allround electric windows all come as standard for added comfort.

2013 KIA Soul Review

Experience the refined ride you would normally only expect in a far more expensive vehicle. Responsive acceleration is delivered by a punchy 1.6 litre engine taken from the ultra reliable award-winning Kia cee'd, while the Soul’s suspension has been fine-tuned by engineers specifically for UK roads. Soul’s revolutionary design is underpinned by a scrupulous logic which combines the space and flexibility of an SUV with the footprint of a super-mini. It delivers
exceptional fuel economy across the range the 1.6 turbo-diesel achieves up to 61 mpg and carries a highly efficient road tax rating.

Your safety is our number one concern. For this reason we’ve included a wealth of active and passive safety features throughout the Soul range: 6 airbags (including curtain airbags which stay inflated for an additional 10 seconds for added protection) four disc brakes, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) skid prevention and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) all come as standard. Other Soul features include traction control, Brake Assist System (BAS), front seatbelt pre-tensioners, active front head restraints, ISOFIX child seat anchors, high mounted rear lights and ultra-high-strength steel A and B pillars which enhance passenger safety. The engine in KIA Soul is positioned lower than many competitors, giving exceptionally balanced handling as well as pedestrian protection in the event of a collision.

2013 Kia Ceed Europe Performance

The new 2013 KIA Ceed is born and bred in Europe. Conceived at our European Design Centre in Germany, it’s manufactured at our state-of-the-art factory in Zilina, Slovakia. This is where our highly qualified technicians and more than 400 robots produce cars with the highest build quality. Around 75 per cent of parts used at our manufacturing plant are sourced from European suppliers. So there’s plenty of home-grown talent built in to the new KIA cee’d. At our research and design centres in Germany, the USA, Japan and Korea, we’re constantly developing new ideas to suit different regions in the world.

The new 2013 Kia cee’d looks fresher than ever. Both hatchback and wagon carry their individual styling signature, with the clear Kia family connection showing through. The new dynamic “Kia face” is made up of the redesigned front bumper, grille and headlamps. Apart from a reshaped bonnet, the rear has also been given a new edge with a remodelled bumper for the hatchback and new tail lights on both models. In profi le, the new cee’d reveals smooth fl owing lines designed to please both the eye and your sensible side. The aerodynamic design of the new Kia cee’d equals greater stability, a lack of wind noise and better fuel economy.

2013 Kia Ceed

It’s easy to take control of the road, when you’ve got plenty of clever help. The new Kia cee’d is equipped with a whole range of active driving technology for improved road handling and stability. Fully independent front and rear suspension guarantees a comfortable ride. Also, electric power-assisted steering makes both motorway driving and parking a thoroughly relaxed affair. Electronic Brakeforce Distribution ensures balanced braking. Electronic Stability Control improves stability in extreme driving conditions. Front and rear discs backed-up by four-channel, four-sensor Anti-lock Braking System. Hill Start Assist Control. Takes the sting out of starting on steep hills. Brake Assistant System ensures the brake force applied is just right.

At Kia, we constantly search for new ways to improve your driving experience. Sometimes, this even means a little restraint, as our new engines reveal. Fitted with Start/Stop System (ISG), the engines consume less fuel when the car is idle. For example, when you stop at a traffi c light, the engine is turned off and switched on automatically when you resume the journey. Idle Stop and Go (ISG) can save up to 15 per cent fuel, whilst reducing noise and exhaust emissions. Low resistance tyres and an optimum shift indicator also increase effi ciency on the Kia cee’d. All elements work together to create what we call “EcoDynamics”.

The new Kia cee’d is an expert at making your life easier. As the driver, you will appreciate the beautifully crafted, ergonomic cockpit where everything is close at hand. Adjust the volume of your state-of-the-art audio system via the steering wheel buttons, check essential journey
statistics or fi nd your destination via the new full-map navigation system. You can even choose parking sensors to help you manoeuvre without a scratch. There’s plenty of well-considered technology for increased comfort and minimum distraction.

Most people drive home to relax. The new Kia cee’d helps you unwind the moment you get behind the wheel. The comfy seats are clad in soft leather or beautiful fabric. For added convenience the front seats come with adjustable lumbar support and active headrests for added safety. Rear passengers will enjoy the spacious cabin with plenty of head- and legroom. High quality materials and a premium fi nish create a welcoming atmosphere throughout. Whether you’re a technology buff, the practical type or, if you like the comfort of leather, choose from a wide range of options to suit your cee’d.

2013 Kia Ceed Review

Creating cars that are kinder to the environment is a big challenge. And one we’re very happy to address. We take great pride in meeting the highest environmental standards and invest heavily in preservation and sustainable development. Our researchers work around the clock to create the most fuel-efficient, lightweight and high-powered engines with reduced emissions and noise, spearheading automobile innovation in the 21st century.

Kia Ceed 2013

The Kia cee’d is powered by the latest engine technology, designed to suit both your driving style and the highest environmental standards. Opt for one of the three diesel engines and you’ll enjoy fuel economy and performance in equal measure. The key to their success is a range of advanced technologies including a variable geometry turbocharger and second generation Bosch fuel injection. Choose between new 1.6 litre models ranging from 90 to 115 PS, and the top performing 2.0 litre CRDi (140 PS) engine. If you’re a petrol person, you’ll thoroughly enjoy the choice of 1.4 litre (90 PS), 1.6 litre (126 PS) and 2.0 litre (143 PS) DOHC engines. They feature CVVT (Continuous Variable Valve Timing) technology and electronic fuel injection to boost performance.

All diesel engines are fi tted with 6-speed manual transmission as standard, petrol models feature a 5-speed manual gearbox for extra smooth gear changes. If you prefer to let the cee’d do the work, choose automatic transmission as an option. The new engine range now features advanced low emission technology to meet the strictest European guidelines. If you want to do even more to curb emissions, choose the new Start/Stop System (ISG). It helps save up to 15 per cent fuel and signifi cantly reduces CO2. The system is available for the 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre petrol engines and the 1.6 litre diesel. All models equipped with Start/Stop System (ISG) carry the EcoDynamics badge.

2013 Kia Cerato New Release

The 2013 Kia Cerato is the new model in the Kia range. It replaces the previous models; Spectra, Shuma and Mentor. As well, it gives Kia a fresh contemporary entrant into the competitive small vehicle market segment that just about every manufacturer has a model on sale. The KIA Cerato is available as a four door sedan only at this point, a sporty hatch version is expected out later in 2012. There are plenty of vehicles to choose from in this competitive market segment. Some vehicles in this class have been on sale for a long time. and are from established manufacturers that build excellent value into their cars. This new vehicle from Kia is also excellent value. Its keen drive away pricing will win plenty of fans but importantly the Cerato adds a new fresh design to the mix. It is a comfortable, easy to drive vehicle that should be included to the shopping list of buyers looking at cars in this category.

The KIA Cerato is sold with a comprehensive list of standard features especially for a new vehicle in this class. The 2013 Cerato comes standard with air conditioning, electric windows with automatic down function on the driver’s window, electric external mirrors, power steering, cruise control, remote central locking and a CD player with six speakers. Cabin storage is good for this sized vehicle, and whilst it hasn’t got the largest interior space in its class front occupant space is generous, likewise the rear will sit three across with reasonable ease. Large drink bottles can be stored in the door pockets. There is a storage binnacle in the centre of the dash that can take small items. Though, the bottom surface needs to be non slip to stop items from rolling around.

2013 KIA Cerato

The front seats in the KIA Cerato have a flat seat base that lacks any real support . The backrests are a little better offering slightly more support to shoulders. The rear seats could also do with some additional thigh support. The air conditioning vents provide plenty of volume especially at low speeds. When seated behind the wheel the Cerato feels like most small cars in its class. It has a user friendly layout with enough seat adjustment for all shapes and sizes. Front vision is especially good. There are a couple of annoying points though, the steering wheel isn’t central to the driver’s seat and the handbrake is in an awkward position in the centre console. If the handbrake is on and reverse is selected the gear lever can hit the hand brake. Instruments are large and easy to read; at first glance the engine temp gauge and the fuel gauge look the same and can be initially a little confusing.

The build quality and finish is average for this class of vehicle. The paint quality on major
panels on the test vehicle was consistent, although door opening apertures were less so with some openings a little patchy. The boot area was trimmed and well finished, the interior trim was let down slightly by the interior carpet which appeared to be of fairly low quality and may not wear well. The Cerato comes standard with driver’s and passenger’s front air bags. The seat belts have pre tensioners and load limiters fitted. Not having ABS brakes available even as an option is a disappointing omission. The Cerato has an engine immobiliser and remote central locking as standard, and receives a security rating of 52 out of 120 which is above average for its class.

The engine and transmission package has been around in various guises for a while now
it’s not the latest technology by any stretch and its fuel economy reflects this as well, on test
the Cerato returned 9.litres per 100kms on our city cycle and 8.litres per 100kms highway. The 2 litre engine develops 101kW at 6,000 rpm and 182Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The manual tested proved to be a willing performer, with the transmissions ratios suited to the engines torque characteristics. One minor criticism of the transmission was the narrow gear lever gate. Between first and third gear, on up shifts into third gear it felt as though first was being selected, not a desirable trait!

Power steering is standard on the 2012 KIA Cerato and is hydraulically operated. At low speeds it’s light enough to make even the tightest car park spaces a breeze. The downside is, that at speed there is no real feedback to the driver and when hurried along the soft ride becomes lurchy which makes the Cerato feel a little unbalanced and flighty especially through tight twisting sections of road. Braking is the one area that Kia’s rivals outpoint the Cerato. The lack of ABS meant that stopping distances recorded were greater than many similar sized vehicles tested recently. The Cerato has four wheel disc brakes, 275mm ventilated at the front and 258mm solid discs on the rear. The brakes were light in operation but unfortunately gave little indication of lockup during emergency stops.

Providing protection and reassurance is a six airbag system comprising two front airbags, two curtain airbags and two side airbags. Underneath, a reinforced high tensile steel sub-frame offers strength where it’s needed most. When reversing into a parking space, an alert sounds if you get too close to other cars or the curb.

Under the bonnet of the Rio, next-generation 1.2 or 1.4 petrol engines provide optimum performance with enhanced fuel economy. Built of high pressure die-cast aluminum to keep weight down and therefore save on fuel, their ladderframe construction provides rigidity so that vibrations are reduced. Durable, quiet and smooth-running, these are engines to rely on. An all-new unit that delivers extra power while still keeping emissions low, this engine features single continuously variable valve timing, a silent steel timing chain and offset crankshaft. A four cylinder unit constructed of lightweight aluminium, this engine features dual continuously variable valve timing and roller swing arm to reduce emissions and cut fuel consumption.

KIA Soulster Truck Concept 2012

Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced the open air KIA Soulster Concept, which made its debut at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in January, was named the 2009 Concept Truck of the Year during the 2009 North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Michigan. Honored for its beach-ready prowess and creative design, Soulster Concept  is the first concept from Kia Motors to receive one of the coveted Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards, proving that a small, personal-use truck can still be fun and capable.

The Soul production vehicle has provided our design team with a tremendous platform for
expression, and with the Soulster Concept we sought to highlight a different side of the Soul and take it to another  level,” said Tom Kearns, chief designer, Kia Design Center America. “It is an honor for the Soul’ster to be named Concept Truck of the Year, and further proof that Kia’s global commitment to design is dramatically altering the brand’s image and consumer opinion of our company and our vehicles.

KIA Soulster Truck Concept

The eighth annual North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards recognize those vehicles most likely to shape the future of the automobile industry and are organized by the South East Automotive Media Organization. A jury of more than two dozen North American automotive journalists selected the winners from 23 Concept Vehicles and 11 Production Preview Vehicles that made a North American debut during the 2009 auto show season. The Kia Soulster Concept shows the playfulness of the designers from the initial design of the Soul,” said juror Lou Ann Hammond.

A two door concept with roadster roots, the brightly colored Soul’r yellow Soul’ster Concept projects a hip industrial look with screw borders, reminiscent of a rivet design found on a fighter jet. The windshield is shortened for a sportier and hunkered down appearance. A two-piece top enables passengers to expose the front and back seating areas independently, using elbow-grease technology. The roll bar serves a dual purpose and includes a place for the slider tracks, while providing protection not found in traditional convertibles. Regardless of Soul’ster being viewed from front, back or side, it offers innovative perspectives derived from the original Soul. The energetic, distinctive look carries from front to rear with dual chrome exhaust and polished aluminum exhaust tips featuring carbon-fiber interior sleeves. The large 19-inch, five-spoke aluminum alloy wheels perfect the Soul’ster’s appearance.

Once inside, the non-floor-mounted cantilevered seats project the illusion of being suspended in
space when viewed from the side allowing for increased rear legroom. Storage compartments below each of the fold-flat rear seats, offer room for myriad cargo needs. In addition to the spacious cargo area, dual storage compartments also can be found in the rear and underneath the cargo hold area.

KIA KEE Concept New Release 2012

Peter Schreyer, Chief Design Officer Kia Motors Corporation, talks about the all-new Kia Kee 2+2 sports coupe concept unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show today. Sports coupe enthusiasts know instinctively when a car is right shape, proportion, stance and both tactile and emotional aspects all add up to a car that stirs the blood. At the Frankfurt Show today, Kia is revealing just such a car. No one could mistake the purpose of KIA Kee Concept it is a sports coupe pure and simple, designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts.

Yet KIA Kee Concept is more than just a svelte, exciting sports coupe concept. It is also the dawn of a new design language for the Kia brand - a language that will speak to motorists around the globe about the Korean company’s intention to become one of the world’s major automotive names over the coming years. Kia’s Frankfurt-based design team, headed by Gregory Guillaume, set out to make KIA Kee a landmark car in Kia’s history. It is no coincidence that its name plays on the word ‘key’ because that is how essential Kee is to the future of Kia. Kee Concept also acknowledges the Chinese and Korean word ´Ki` the cultural concept for life-force or spiritual energy.

KIA Kee Concept

Uncluttered, pure and timeless in execution yet modern, effective and usable in purpose, Kee Concept represents a new ethos for Kia and is not simply a flight of design fancy. With KIA Kee the entire design team is laying open its mind and its heart. This car stands as a clear indication of Kia’s design philosophy, an indication of how Kia wishes to be viewed exciting, appealing, creative, aspirational, with products that are beautiful and yet functional, purposeful and realistic. This car is about passion and energy. It is both the present and the future something that could be built now or in the future. It will influence every Kia to come and will deliver to existing and new customers a realization that Kia is a company that embraces the future rushes headlong to meet it and wants to build magnificent cars for very important people our customers!

With its broad stance and low profile, KIA Kee is a new interpretation of the 2+2 coupe, with a simple yet distinctive outline thanks to its long sweeping bonnet, slightly lengthened cabin with striking graphic treatment, sculpted flanks and strong swage lines. Beneath the powerful and unique appearance are a host of fine details all hinting at the car’s true purpose and harmonising to create a sophisticated design entity. Whether it is the milled aluminium B-pillar visible through the panoramic grey-tinted glass, the distinctively individual 20 inch wheels and hand-cut Continental tyres or the small touches such as the electronic micro-switch door release set into the side-window glass, the clamshell rear hatch opening supported by electronic dampers or the unique front windscreen shape that mirrors so many other details on the Kee, it is clear that this car has been lovingly created by people who care about design.

2012 KIA Kee Concept

KIA Kee Concept lays down very clear indications of how future Kia vehicles should look and displays elements that its creators will transfer to future Kia products. Presented as part of the strong frontal design with its distinctive headlamps and eye-catching LED cluster, the new style grille will become the new ‘face of Kia’ across our product range. This new concept car is our starting point. Kee Concept shows how we think and what we want to do to appeal to the emotional side of our audience and bring that balance of purpose and emotion into the Kia design language. With KIA Kee we are irrevocably heading off along our chosen path.

2012 KIA KEE Concept

Inside, Kee Concept looks and feels like a true sports car in which the keen driver will instantly feel comfortable and at ease. The cabin is designed for maximum focus on driving. Clustered directly ahead of the driver, the main dials and controls are simple and straightforward, utilising Kia’s new standard red-orange illumination. Behind the square-bottomed steering wheel are paddles to shift the six-speed semi-automatic sequential gearbox. Instead of a standard gear stick an ergonomically designed lever sits atop the milled aluminium centre console and requires only a nudge forward or backward to select the desired drive mode. And the top of the computer mouse-like lever flips up to reveal the electronic starter button.

All the main interior surfaces are covered in semi-suede microfibre materials and the body-hugging sports seats use a hard wearing but distinctive metallic-finish silver cloth. And continuing the real-life functionality of KIA Kee Concept , the rear of the 2+2 cabin is sufficiently spacious to allow two adult passengers to travel on individual seats in the back of the vehicle whenever necessary.

The design team has concentrated on producing a realistic sports coupe. Every element of its design is clear, easy to understand and to use. All the main controls are fly-by wire, but their feel in operation has been created to deliver a sense of traditional operation. For example, the toggle switches mounted on the dashboard echoing the DNA of generations of sports cars let you navigate intuitively through the interface menu of the info-media center. Perhaps most importantly KIA Kee is a simple corporate statement to the motoring world that Kia is a brand underpinned with quality and reliability and now on top of that comes the emotional element of distinctive  design. The future for Kia products lies in balance, clarity and purpose, and Kee, our latest show car embodies that philosophy. The Kee represents an affordable dream for sports car lovers.”

2012 KIA KUE Luxury Concept Review

The 2012 Kia Kue Concept employs a different approach to the crossover utility vehicle segment by taking elements of what makes a CUV to a new level, namely performance. KIA Kue Concept is designed first and foremost as a driver’s vehicle. While possessing SUV characteristics and capabilities, the Kia Kue focuses more on giving the driver an exhilarating driving experience on the way to the home improvement center than on how much it can haul.

The 2012 Kia Kue Concept has a monocoque platform that sits on 22-inch tires with a wheelbase of more than 114 inches, packaged in an overall length of 186 inches. Though purely a concept, the Kia Kue Concept does, however, hint at future styling directions for Kia Motors. Good design shouldn’t look like you are trying too hard,” said Tom Kearns, KMA chief designer. The future Kia direction will incorporate the ‘less is more’ philosophy but still include a heavy dose of boldness to be distinct.

KIA KUE Concept

With its four wheels pushed to the corners and exterior skin tautly stretched over its underpinnings, the Kue Concept sits powerful and poised. Draped muscular wheel flares play a nice contrast to crisp beveled sections found elsewhere on the body. Swept back headlights connect to the front grille to create a clean, aggressive down-road appearance. The side window shape flows effortlessly into the rear backlight where two centerline hinging doors open to access rear storage. A single side door that incorporates a negative skive shape opens scissor style for easy ingress and egress.

On the inside Kia Kue Concept continues the clean, athletic theme with bold understated simplicity. With a four-passenger seating arrangement and custom-built bucket seats, Kue Concept is a vehicle both driver and passengers can enjoy. A technology-driven interface designed to adjust to driver and passenger preference is the focus of the interior functionality. Touch pad and motion-sensing controls are used to adjust things like audio and climate, and the entire system is programmable so that one surface may activate the stereo for one driver and temperature for another. Rear passengers have their own, separate interface.

The generation-next functionality of the interior is complemented by the use of sophisticated seat and surface materials and a modern color palette. Carefully selected materials and textures are vital components to the interior design of Kue, and they create an upscale feel that is both modern and inviting. A mid dark interior theme with highlights was chosen in place of the typical light interior common to many concept cars. Overall, the Kue Concept interior presents a new perspective of upscale function with an emphasis on comfortable, user-friendly interaction.

Just as inviting is KIA Kue appeal to be driven in a sporty fashion. Fitted with a 400-horsepower, DOHC, supercharged 4.6-liter V8 that twists out 400 lb-ft of torque, Kue is a true performance vehicle. Helping the driver harness all that power is a full-time all wheel drive system yielding predictable driving characteristics both on- and off-road. Developed by the KMA design team as an expression of Kia’s global design language, the Kia Kue Concept is a true reflection of the Kia brand and the passion it embraces.

2012 KIA RAY Concept New Release

Kia Motors America (KMA) today unveiled the Ray Plug-in Hybrid concept during a press conference at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show, advancing momentum of Kia Motors’ global alternative fuel and powertrain research program, and its sub-brand coined “EcoDynamics,” to develop innovative fuel-stretching and emissions-cutting technologies. The most efficient Kia vehicles with significant fuel consumption and emission reductions developed under the Eco Dynamics sub-brand will be identified with the EcoDynamics badge. Recently, the Eco Dynamics sub-brand took a major step forward with the introduction of the Kia Borrego Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) followed by the Forte LPI Hybrid, the gasoline Kia cee’d Hybrid and the twin-turbo diesel Kia Sorento Hybrid.

As the world looks for more efficient vehicle designs that combine sophisticated and sleek lines
with functionality and fuel economy, the 2012 Kia Ray Concept is a bold new collaboration between design and engineering and inventively showcases a futuristic four-seat compact sedan based on the Kia Forte platform and demonstrates a prospective plug-in hybrid vehicle configuration from Kia. Designed with lightweight and recycled materials, as well as hexagonal roof-top solar cells embedded in the glass roof panel that power extra lighting or climate control systems, the Kia Ray Concept is the fifth vehicle from the Irvine Calif.-based Kia Design Center America (KDCA) to be revealed in the last year. The latest design from KDCA follows award-winning Kia vehicles Soul, Forte, Forte Koup and the all new 2012 KIA Sorento CUV.

2012 KIA Ray Concept
KIA RAY Concept
“It is important to imagine what people will want in the future from a green perspective early in
the design process, because people want to reduce their carbon footprint without driving carbon copies,” said Peter Schreyer, chief design officer, Kia Motors Corporation. “Being green doesn’t have to be an obvious statement anymore and the Kia Ray Concept exemplifies a viable blend of modern, eco-minded features for today’s environmentally conscious consumers.”

The stylish, aerodynamic KIA Ray Concept combines design and engineering for maximum efficiency, incorporating clean, flush surfaces minimizing any unneeded edges, a flowing profile and pronounced rear shoulder ending in a slightly high deck lid for reduced drag, touch-screen controls, drive-by-wire steering, “cool-glazing” solar glass and a lithium-polymer battery all possible indicators of future technology from Kia. As a plug-in hybrid, Ray is designed to reach driving distances of more than 50 miles using its electric motor on a single charge, and has a fuel economy rating of more than 202 miles per gallon, and has a total range of 746 miles.

As part of Kia Motors’ Eco Dynamics sub-brand, the Ray concept demonstrates a unique vision for  eye catching vehicles with the goal of reducing environmental footprints. Kia models will carry the EcoDynamics badge as they are progressively introduced, and are designed to deliver significant environmental benefits, these vehicles also will retain a sporty design, fun-to-drive performance and a strong appeal for the young-at-heart.

2012 KIA Ray Concept Review
2012 KIA RAY Concept
Eco Dynamics is the overarching design philosophy applied to make the Kia Ray concept
efficiently functional and striking in appearance. A lowered mono-volume shape and a strong,
curvaceous silhouette gives the Kia Ray concept better aerodynamic properties than taller profile hybrid vehicles. Strong and lightweight materials are used to support the EcoDynamics philosophy starting with a tabbed LED Kia badge covered with a single piece of glass that extends over the hood and another piece of glass that extends from the cowl of the windshield to the rear header to offer occupants a spacious, airy feeling. An illuminated battery charge indicator display is hood-mounted, furthering the Kia Ray concept’s futuristic design. A tapering greenhouse cabin and a longer “tail” improve aerodynamics while reduction of drag is attained through a one-piece, smooth-as-glass, integrated underbody panel, narrow tire width and flush wheel design.

Front driving lamps slide back to create openings for better air intake when the gasoline engine is being used and a sliding U-shaped deck-lid extends from the rear of the vehicle at higher speeds for improved coefficient of drag. In lieu of side-view mirrors and door handles, motion-detector cameras are mounted flush with the body for safe lane changing procedures and opening of doors. The result is an airframe on wheels. The front door opening features a forward cutout design for the feet allowing ease of entry. The rear door lines are very purposeful with rear-hinged coach doors, yet stylish because their height and shape improves ingress and egress.

2012 KIA Ray Concept
2012 KIA RAY Concept
The Ray Concept employs new “cool car” technology, including nano-laminate films and cool-glazing materials applied to the concept to dramatically reduce solar heat and demonstrate how keeping the interior cool will reduce air conditioning loads and greenhouse emissions. When the vehicle is parked in the sun, the solar cells provide a trickle charge that helps operate a cooling fan to reduce interior temperatures.

Using the natural element of air as the design focus to convey feelings of pure, lightweight,
breathable and refreshing, Ray’s interior is comprised of eco-friendly recycled materials in cool white tones to offer the passengers a sense of purity while also reflecting the heat of the sun, keeping the temperature down and reducing the use of air conditioner energy. Front and rear seats, mounted on side sills, create a floating effect with hollowed out elastomeric materials to support body weight, also made of lightweight composite materials. Fresh and sustainable materials like wool flooring unite to create a simple yet sophisticated and comfortable cabin, with a lightweight touch screen instrument layout featuring touch screen push-button start and gear shift toggle. The center stack features the all-new Kia UVO powered by Microsoft advanced infotainment system, which provides users with friendly voice- and touch-activated controls for
simple management of music files and hands-free mobile phone operation.

Adding to the list of green technology features, Ray Concept also employs the all-new GreenEdge system by Infinity Audio, complete with loudspeakers that reduce power consumption and dissipation through lower self heating temperatures with increased acoustic performance, a better synergy between amplifier, speaker and vehicle. The amplifier used also reduces the idle power consumption by 50 percent of current Infinity speakers and employs a lower dissipation design for significant savings in overall weight.

The KIA Ray Concept is designed to be powered by an all-aluminum 153-horsepower Gasoline Direct Injected (GDI) 1.4-liter engine mated to a permanently-engaged fixed ratio Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), used in combination with a 78kw electric motor. Depending on driving conditions, power is sent to the wheels from the gasoline engine, the electric motor, or both together. The Ray concept is front-wheel drive with a four-wheel independent suspension.
Furthering EcoDynamics innovation, the Ray concept’s advanced system is equipped with an
engine-power saving alternator management system and a toggle gear-shift up/down indicator to encourage economical driving. Custom-designed low-rolling resistance with a hexagon pattern, narrow 20-inch (195/50R20) tires also improve Ray’s efficiency.

2013 KIA KV7 Concept Luxury SUV

Kia Motors’ design-led transformation has delivered eye catching vehicles such as the Soul, Forte Koup, Sorento and Sportage that bear strong resemblances to the concept cars that preceded them, and today at the North American International Auto Show the brand’s U.S. design studio unveiled its latest design statement the “KV7concept. Conceived as a modern day “activity van,” the 2012 KIA KV7 Concept challenges the notion that vans are strictly for family transportation and reveals a vision for a vehicle with the functionality to transport a large number of people and their belongings while also serving as a connected social hub for groups of friends and adventure seekers.

The 2013 KIA KV7 Concept design stands in sharp contrast to the dramatically raked windshields and wedge-shaped noses found throughout the van segment, and builds on the philosophy of “embracing the box” established by Kia’s funky Soul urban passenger vehicle to create a unique and alluring design language that brings SUV like qualities to the segment.

“From the outset, we felt the category was in need of an honest reassessment due to the fact that everyone seems so desperate to attach the word ‘sporty’ to their minivan, even though vans, at their very core are simply a box,” said Tom Kearns, chief designer, Kia Motors America. “Rather than reject the box we chose to celebrate it, just like we did with the Soul, and the result is a straightforward yet sophisticated vehicle that retains the functionality vans are known for and meets the changing and diverse needs of today’s consumers.”

2012 KIA KV7 Concept

Kia Motors’ design-led transformation has infused emotion and passion into the brand’s lineup of new and recently introduced vehicles, and the inspiration for the KIA KV7 concept was found in the simplicity of elegant box shapes such as sleek smart phones and classic pieces of luggage. The 2013 KV7 Concept wide stance is paired with an A-pillar and windshield design that is more vertical than traditional minivans and its smooth exterior skin and 20-inch wheels exude a modern appearance while projecting the confidence and strength of an SUV. The KV7 concept most striking feature is its passenger-side gullwing door, which creates a massive point-of-entry to the lounge-like interior when opened in conjunction with the pillar-less front passenger door.

The KV7 concept’s inviting face is highlighted by an interpretation of Kia’s signature bold tabbed grille with vertical LED headlamps integrated within the design to create a clean, smooth look. The KV7 features several LED lighting elements that Kia’s design team is evaluating for future production vehicles, including a continuous line of LED fog lights that span the entire front end of the vehicle and directional turn indicators on the outside mirrors and the rear of the vehicle that pulse in the direction being signaled.

The KIA KV7 concept distinctive windshield follows the unique designs found on the new Sportage CUV and Optima midsize sedan, and a series of near-continuous windows starting at the A-pillar provide uninterrupted views of a day at the beach or a night out on the town. And despite its non-traditional look, the KV7’s length (191.85 in.), width (80.0 in.) and wheelbase (122.0 in.) are consistent with the van segment and allow flexible seating configurations and a multitude of storage options.

2013 KIA KV7 Concept

In the process of rethinking what a van’s exterior appearance and image could be, Kia’s Southern California design team also envisioned an interior to meet the needs of an entirely new group of consumers a group of people referred to as “Ringleaders.” Rather than using a van to transport children and their accompaniments, Ringleaders are busy organizing road trips, social outings and new adventures for themselves and their friends to experience together. As such, the KV7 concept interior employs four custom-built swiveling seats, including the driver’s seat, and a rear-corner mini-lounge with seating for three and integrated storage compartments to promote interaction in an open social environment.

2013 KIA KV7 Concept

The simple yet sophisticated theme is brought to life inside the KV7 concept through its modern color palette featuring soft beige and green tones and the use of unique seat and surface materials. The KV7 utilizes a variety of unconventional textures, including reclaimed teak wood flooring and sustainable wool and felt materials help to foster a warm and inviting atmosphere.

When the KV7 concept push button start is engaged, the entire front dash moves more than six inches toward the driver, bringing all controls within easy reach, including the large multi-use display which integrates infotainment, climate and navigation systems in one simple-to-use interface controlled by a trackball mouse mounted in the dash. Rear passengers have their own, separate interface in the form of a floating tabletop touch-screen computer display. The KIA KV7 is Wi-Fi enabled, providing both the front and rear displays with Internet capabilities and the ability for multiple passengers to connect their smart phones to the vehicle at one time and sign on to social networking sites.

Building on the experimental use of LED lighting elements found on the exterior, the KV7’s
concept’s interior also features multiple flush-to-the-floor accent illumination points and standout green LED lighting throughout the front dash, instrument panel and rear display area to compliment the vehicle’s color palette. The final element that separates the KV7 concept from the rest of the minivan crowd can be found under the hood the concept is powered by Kia’s new Theta II 2.0-liter GDI turbocharged engine, which is capable of delivering up to 285 horsepower, and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission to deliver V6-type power and performance while achieving better than 30 miles per gallon on the highway.
