2013 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo Revolutionary Review

To travel in style is the idea behind Gran Turismo, and the 2013 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo  does not disappoint. With its elegant design, luxurious ambience and generous spaciousness for all passengers it is surprisingly versatile providing space for large items of luggage in the separate boot and two-part tailgate. This is in addition to the classic Gran Turismo trait: unrivalled driving comfort. Powerful engines with the latest in BMW Efficient Dynamics technology and the flowing dynamics of a coupé-style roofline come together in one vehicle to create something completely new: the perfect combination of sedan elegance, touring flexibility and the raised seat position of an SUV. There are always many reasons for going on a journey and now there is one more: the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Its spacious interior with its luxurious ambience and high-quality materials evokes a comfortable lounge atmosphere while maximum comfort is ensured by the slightly elevated seat position, individual rear seats and generous head- and legroom at the level of the BMW 7 Series. A journey in the 2013 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo is never less than first-class travel.

With its generous spaciousness the 2012 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo flexibly adjusts to meet all of your luggage needs. The low section of the two-part tailgate can be easily accessed to store any purchases acquired along the way while the separate partition wall offers protection from cold, warmth and draft. And if you need more room, simply fold down the rear seat or comfort individual rear seats and open the large tailgate to take advantage of an amazing 1,700 litres of luggage capacity large enough for even the longest of journeys. As distinctive and individual as its driver, the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo never fails to make a lasting first impression. The elongated bonnet, long wheelbase, coupé-like, descending roofline and distinctive rear all accentuate the car's dynamic flair. Contemporary design features based on classic Gran Turismo tradition.

The eight-cylinder power unit in the 2013 BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo provides highest level power and performance while at the same time reducing both fuel consumption and emissions to an even lower level. The V8 with TwinPower Turbo technology, combined with double-Vanos and High Precision Injection, offers maximum output of 300 kW (407 hp). Peak torque is 600 Nm maintained consistently between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm, and accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h takes just 5.5 seconds. How do you improve an engine that has already won the Engine of the Year Award several times? With an eye for detail and a new concept: TwinScroll turbocharger with Valvetronic, double-Vanos and High Precision Injection. Each one of these technologies has been further developed and combined for the first time in the BMW TwinPower Turbo to an efficient and dynamic package: 225 kW (306 hp), 400 powerful Newton metres with nearly every rev, silky-smooth running. All this with fuel consumption at just 8.9 l/100 km a new all-time high for this vehicle class.

The rev counter is the only place you'll notice: with the new 8-speed automatic transmission Steptronic the smaller increments from one gear to the next don’t just increase ride and shift comfort in the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, they also enable faster gearshifts and more profitable use of the optimum rev range. This reduces fuel consumption and lowers CO2 emissions. The system is supported by the newly developed converter clutch – even if you use the electronic gearshift lever to shift manually. Further information about the official fuel consumption and the official specific CO2 emissions for new passenger automobiles can be found in the "New Passenger Vehicle Fuel Consumption and CO2 Emission Guidelines", which are available free of charge at all sales outlets and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern, Germany.
